Bernberg is situated in the centre of the regional stat of Saxony-Anhalt on the river Saale. The town has an impressive Renaissance castle high up on a sandstone rock, now home to a mineral collection, a mill museum and an art gallery. The close-by holiday area of "Krumbholz" with its zoo, fairy tale park and park railway make Bernberg a popular tourist centre. The Saale cycle path is right outside the youth hostel.
