The hostel at Berg is located on Sandi in Aðaldal. It is surrounded by magnificent nature and a diverse bird life. The hostel is at the edge of Aðaldalshraun, which is a lava field that is particularly beautiful and has varied lava formations; it is also covered with low birch and bushes. Through the lava field many interesting walking paths can be found. There is an extraordinary view from the hostel Berg to the north over Skjálfandi bay and to Kinnarfjöll (Kinnarmountains) in the west. The nearest town is Húsavík and there you find various service and interesting activities. In Húsavík is the nearest shop to the Hostel Berg, so travellers have either to bring food with them or drive to Húsavík to get supplies. In Húsavík you can also go whale watching in Skjálfandi bay which is known for its vivid marine life. In the nearest surrounding is the museum at Grenjaðarstaðir, Laxárvirkjun and Goðafoss waterfall. There are not many parts of the country that have as many gems of nature as the North-east of Iceland. It includes among others Mývatn (45km), Ásbyrgi (70km), Hljóðaklettar (90 km) and Dettifoss waterfall (110 km). Next hostels: Akureyri 68 km and Kópasker 117 km

| The young man on staff was extremely friendly and helpful to us when we arrived. I had to give a poor rating for comfort, cleanliness, and security however. We stayed in a four bed dorm room. Security was rated poor because there was no lock on the door so anyone could come in at any time. As far as comfort goes, this hostel desperately needs to invest in new pillows. The pillows on each bed in the dorm were shoved in pillow cases but were basically in pieces. They were extremely uncomfortable. Furthermore, there was only one shower for all of the guests at the hostel to use. I'm not sure how many guests it holds but it was full to capacity when we were there so one shower was not cutting it. Not to mention that you can't even really call it a shower as it only allowed a small trickle of cold water out of the shower head. | ||

| Cleanliness problem in the bathroom, actually rather linked to the guests than the staff, but it would help a lot to unblock the water exit in the shower | ||

| This was a really nice place to stay and the staff on duty were ever present, which was reassuring. This was a busy hostel, which created a good atmosphere. The only problem was in terms of the kitchen. There were not enough cooking rings, pans or places to sit and so everyone had to be very courteous to each other about when and how to cook. Sometimes this was better than others. | ||

| The location is so bad that a backpacker without a car can never reach it. The showerhead in the shower I used was too old to give water properly. | ||

| Marvellous location. Kitchen and dining area was rather small for the number of visitors. Nice that you can sit outside (if the weather is nice). We'd appreciate stores that can be closed (darkness). | ||

| Very comfortable, and clean hostel, free wi-fi. Good lacation, close to Husavik and many tourist attractions. Not enough bathrooms in the hostel, only two showers and 4 toilets, but very clean and made to high standard.Definitely would come back to this hostel. | ||
