The Amazonia Hostel is a beautiful hundrer-year-old house, that has been protected by the authorities. It's been renewed to host the first hostel of the amazonic region. For the price you pay for a private room with no bathroom, it is not worth it at all. The room smelled like pee, was supposed to have a lockable closet inside, but the key was missing. The air conditioning was only on when the Hostel decided it should be on, not you. The bathrooms were small and cramped. During my stay there was no water (except for downstairs in one sink) for an entire day. The next day the internet was down. On top of everything, the staff was not at all knowledgeable of the area - twice they sent me to wrong places - once to a bar for live music that was closed when I got there, and the other time to the ferry to Ilha de Marajó at 5:30am on a Sunday (the first ferry leaves at 10am on Sundays).
