The Youth Hostel in Beja has wonderful facilities for you and your mates. As for sights, you get plenty to choose from. Don't forget this is the largest district in the country, so save at least half a day to see your host town. Visit the monuments, the historic villages and go on the many tours that the Lower Alentejo province has to offer. Go up in a balloon and gaze peacefully at the plains - it'll be an unforgettable experience. With your feet on the ground, find a way of getting to Mértola - why not go by canoe down the Guadiana River and get to know the Guadiana valley nature reserve? - to Monsaraz and to Serpa. The best thing to do is to come for a few days, with plenty of time, so you can enjoy it all at your own pace.

| More than one plate to cook on would have made thıngs easıer. In the kıtchen we were hassled by one partıcular guest who was lookıng for a handout and ruıned our meal - the other resıdents seemed to be wıse to hım and some notıce would have been valuable. | ||

| Comfort POOR: we booked family rooms in 6 cities, only Beja sent us to a shared bathroom.
Location POOR: Hard to find and somewhat hidden, the sign for Multibanco was several times bigger than the Pousada da Juventude, which is hard to see from the road, especially from a car. | ||
