The hostel is located in elegant St Alban. The building that houses the hostel is an original Basle family home by the St Alban Canal. In the past, this canal provided a connection between Basle's factories and the river Rhine. The medieval old town, the town centre and a wide variety of galleries and museums are all within easy reach of the hostel. Accommodation is in 1-8 - bedded rooms, and the hostel offers souvenirs, TV, internet access, washing facilities and meals.

I thought it was a pity that the locker outside the room needs to be paid with a swiss franc, when it´s not necessary to have francs for the city. Further a towel rack for every person placed under or next to the wash basin next to the room could be easy to hang up a small towel or accesories. Thanx for the stay!

The Basel Youth Hostel gets points for the friendliness of the staff, and for the convenience of getting a public transport pass for the days of your stay. The hostel loses major points on comfort and atmosphere, however. The design is "modern industrial" and the dorms look like cold barren concrete and plywood prisons, with curtains that do not block the light. No colour, no welcoming feeling, which is a shame because other international hostels can do minimalist without looking so cold.

Fairly expensive for a hostel, but I guess thats just Switzerland!

Unfortunately we did not stay at Basel. We had to cut short our holiday and return home due to medical reasons.

Zeer modern hostel. Erg mooi, goede faciliteiten en goede bedden. Prachtige locatie en uitstekend bewegwijzerd vanaf het station. 20 minuten lopen is dan ook echt 20 minuten lopen... ;-)

lovely location. A bit bleak inside, and toilets hard to identify.

This was probably the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The architecture is fantastic and the building really suits the enviroment. Falling asleep to the sound of a small stream was fabulous. The only drawback is that there is no parking and you have to take your chances with finding street parking - this situation should be clearly stated for all potential customers.
