Lofoten Hostel Ballstad and Kremmervika Rorbuer is located in picturesque surroundings at the heart of Lofoten, in the fishing village of Ballstad. From this unique place we can offer a wide range of fantastic experiences all year round; A Fisherman's cabin / fisherman home where you can find shelter, with activities such as ocean fishing/ fresh water fishing, breath-taking treks in the moutains, arctic surfing or adventurous ocean safaris. Far against North, at the heart of Lofoten, facing the foaming shores of the Vestfjord, between fjords and mountain tops, old stone age caves and viking tombs, lies Kræmmervika, Ballstad. A fishing community which has been a safe port for fishermen during centuries. The fishermen, the heroes of the sea, who have had the ocean as their primary food chamber for generations, have come to Kremmervika from all areas of coastal Norway. With their lives at stake, they sailed, or even rowed, all the way to the islands of Lofoten in order to access the "gold of the ocean".
The fishing community of Ballstad is still very active. Nowadays however, it also provides tourists and travellers modern and comprehensive facilities. Lofoten Hostel Ballstad accomodates people thoughout the entire year, and represents a suitable starting point if you are going to explore all the beautiful things Lofoten has to offer; picturesque surroundings summer and winter, a calm Fisherman's cabin holiday, a cycling holiday, climbing, arctic surf, ocean safari or fishing. | Sea port: | he Hurtigruta corresponds with local buses from Stamsund to Ballstad. From Bodø: Northbound Hurtigrute leaves every day from Bodø to Stamsund at 3 pm. The crossing takes about 4 hours. Southbound Hurtigrute leaves from Stamsund at 7pm. Northbound Hurtigrute leaves from Stamsund at 9pm. Hurtigruten corresponds with local bus lines between Stamsund and Ballstad. Stamsund is located 27 km from Kræmmervika. By sea with ferry: From Bodø: The ferry leaves fir Moskenes several times daily. For accurate sailing hours please contact the ferry directly by calling +47 948 03 115 or the local traffic information directory at +47 177. From Skutvik: The ferry leaves for Svolvær once a day. For accurate sailing hours please contact the ferry directly by calling +47 948 03 115 or the local traffic information directory at +47 177. By car: By car you can either enjoy sailing with Hurtigruta or the local ferry, or you can choose to drive E6 and onwards throughout Vesterålen. With this new mainland connection - Lofast - it is possible to drive to Lofoten without being dependandt on boat transportation. From Evenes (Harstad/Narvik airport) it is roughly a 3 to 4-hr drive. | A friendly welcome and it was great having the sitting area in the cabin. There is a heated lounge with TV, Books and a DVD collection in the main building that is open 24 hours and a cafe/bar that has limited hours in winter.
