One of the most beautiful German spa towns with a long tradition, Bad Ems is situated at the heart of a nature reserve on the banks of the idyllic Lahn River. Magnificent old building bear witness to the town’s grand past. Since Roman times (remains of the old Roman border can still be found) until the end of WW II there were silver and lead mines in Bad Ems. Also worth mentioning are the forests of the Taunus Mountains and the Middle Rhine Valley between Koblenz and Bingen. Bad Ems is an ideal base for outdoor activities such as cycling, canoeing and hiking along sign-posted footpaths. Sports and leisure: Ems thermal spa with outdoor swimming pool, outdoor chess, golf, crazy golf, horse riding, boat trips, bike, boat and canoe rentals, Gackenbach Game and Leisure Park (summer toboggan run), skateboard and rollerblade area on Silberau Island, walks around Bad Ems, fitness path, tennis … Attractions: Bismarck monument at Bismarckhöhe, Benedetti Stone opposite the assembly rooms, Russian orthodox church, Limes (Roman border), Mainzer Haus, water and source museum, Roman watchtower, “Haus zu den vier Türmen” (Four Tower House), Balmoral Castle, Mining Museum, Spa and Town Museum, Brunnenhalle (spring water hall)… Day trips: romantic Middle Rhine with Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, visit of Deutsches Eck, boat trip on the Rhine to Braubach, visit of Marksburg Castle, sightseeing in Koblenz, Kannebäckerland with visits to potteries and pottery museum in Höhr-Grenzhausen, boat trip on the Lahn, trips along the Lahn to Wetzlar, Limburg, Diez etc. Cycling: Lahn Valley cycle path towards Diez, Limburg or Weilburg or to Lahnstein in the Rhine Valley; bike rental in town.
