In Roman times Avenches was called Aventicum and was an important place. Today Avenches is characterized by its medieval architecture and the famous stud farm. The town is located between the vineyards of the Vully and the Broye valley, connecting Lake Murten and Lake Neuenburg.

| The kitchen was totally off limits to guests with no warning on the web site. The manager refused to give us hot water from the kettle for our own tea. He insisted we buy from a machine at 3 euro per cup. | ||
