Hostel Details

We have a capacity for 166 people in single, 2- and 4-bedded rooms, all with en suite shower/WC. Dining area in the Rittersaal (“knight hall”), bistro, snacks, play area, cosy Burgschänke (castle tavern) with terrace… We have 5 common and meeting rooms for 18 – 60 people and a congress hall for up to 160 people for training courses, workshops, music courses etc. Facilities include projector, flipchart, Metaplan board, presentation equipment, dimmable lights, TV, DVD player, VCR, HiFi with CD player, sound system, DSL Internet in the meeting room, WiFi HotSpot, piano and conference service (printer, photocopier, fax, transparency printer). Leisure facilities inside include board games and Internet terminal, outside there are a ping pong table, a small sports field (football goals, basketball), a children’s playground, a barbecue area with hut and right next to the house an open-air swimming pool (admission fee). Family rates: Children up to the age of 2 free of charge, children 3 -14 years of age 50 % reduction on total price. Group rates: For groups of 20 persons or more and a minimum stay of 2 nights including full board 2 persons free of charge. Nursery schools 2 € reduction per person per night. Full board and other catering options available. We welcome families, schools, training courses and workshops, music groups and choirs, holiday, cycling and walking groups as well as individual travellers.

We also have wheelchair accessible rooms.

Altleiningen is located in the foothills of the Palatinate Forest. One of the most beautiful castle ruins in the area and Count von Leiningen’s former family seat, Altleiningen now is a youth hostel. One of the most extraordinary attractions is the swimming pool in the moat. The small village is surrounded by beautiful large forests and you can find many historic sites close-by, e.g. in Grünstadt, Wattenheim, Höningen and Carlsberg. This is a great hiking area, there are sign-posted walks throughout the forests: the Leininger walk, Mühlenwanderweg (mill walk) and Drei-Burgen-Weg (three castle walk), there is a forest trail with 60 stops where you can learn about flora and fauna, hunting and forestry. Further attractions: Local history museum in Hettenleidelheim, ecologic centre Ebertsheim, 12th century monastery ruin and church in Höningen, Rotsteig game reserve, wineries (including sparkling wine caves), brewery in Grünstadt etc. Leisure and sports: Play area with sports field, heated public swimming pool in the castle moat (admission fee), tennis courts in Carlsberg (about 6km), “Deutsche Weinstraße” wine walking and cycling route. Day trips: Speyer (cathedral, Technology Museum and changing exhibitions at the Museum of the Palatinate), Sea Life Speyer, Heidelberg with castle tour and city sightseeing, Bad Dürkheim (graduation house, thermal spa, Museum of the Palatinate), monastery ruin Limburg, Hardenburg, Holiday Park Haßloch, tour of various Palatinate castles (Trifels at Annweiler, Berwartstein Castle at Erlenbach etc.).
