Thanks to its beauty and its people´s kindness, is called "CIUDAD DE LAS PUERTAS ABIERTAS" (CITY OF OPEN DOORS). Another name is “MANIZALES DEL ALMA” for the famous Spanish song with the same name. It is also called “LA CIUDAD DE LAS FERIAS EN AMÉRICA” ("THE CITY OF THE FAIRS IN AMERICA) for the well-known annual bullfighting fair and for its main product, coffee, is called “CAPITAL MUNDIAL DEL CAFÉ” (WORLD CAPITAL OF COFFEE).
Manizales is a new town, modern, competitive and progressive. It is part of the well-known and beautiful "Eje Cafetero Colombiano" (Colombian Coffee Core).
The town was founded in 1849 by Antioquian Settlers. Its industrial devolopment is due to the coffee, an agricultural product and the engine for the town devolopment during all its live.
The Historic Centre has a Republican Architecture with a Neoclassic, Neogothic and Neorenaissance style, that highlights the Republican period, fillint the town with mejesty.
Today, the historic centre in Manizales is declared as National Monument since 2nd December 1999. Furthermore, the town has a mixed construction of mud and cement, unique in Colombia and Latinamerica. In the center, is Bolívar Square, Sanz Building, Archobishop Palace, Culture Secretary in Caldas, Government of Caldas.

Directions
| Bus: | Manizales Miltón Gaviria Transport Terminal, Carrera 43 # 65- 100, 4,5 km from the hostel. Take a taxi and ask to be taken on the via Panamericana. Then, take Avenida Alberto Alzate and you will get to Batallón and then to La Camelia neighbourhood. You can also take the air cable car that costs $1.200 pesos and in Avenida Santander, take a city bus towards El Batallón. El Batallón Militar is the reference to get to the hostel. |
| Airport: | La Nubia Airport, next to La Enea neighbourhood, 55 km from the hostel. Internatinal Matecaña Airport, next to Matecaña Zoo, via the exit to Cali, 57 km from the hostel. Take a taxi and take the via to Manizales Town. Then, take Avenida Santander and one block before the Batallón, turn right. The hostel is located in La Camelia neighbourhood. |
