Hostel Details

Located in beautiful Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Hostelling International - Ironmaster's Mansion was built in 1829 as the home of the ironmaster of the Pine Grove Furnace Ironworks. The ironworks manufactured cannonballs during the Revolutionary War, and the hostel was a stop on the Underground Railroad for sheltering runaway slaves.

The hostel has a hot tub and is on the Appalachian Trail. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is crisscrossed by bike trails for both mountain bikes and 10-speeds and has lakes and streams for fishing and swimming. In the winter, great cross-country skiing starts right at the hostel's front porch. Alpine skiing is also nearby. Historic Gettysburg and its battlefield are close by.

Location:	Pine Grove Furnace State Park From PA Turnpike: Take exit 16 at Carlisle to I-81 south, take exit 11, take Rt 233 south 8 miles to State Park Office. Turn right, hostel is 1/5 mile on left. From Gettysburg: Rt 34 north 17-2/3 miles to Twirly Top Ice Cream Parlor. Turn left and go 7 miles, hostel is on left.
