AREA CONSTRUCTION NOTICE
HI-Calgary City Centre's neighbourhood, the East Village, is getting an exciting transformation! Years in the planning, Downtown Calgary's East Village is slated for redevelopment -- to become one of the city's new urban villages. The neighbourhood will offer some of the hippest shopping, dining, recreational and residential opportunities in the country. It's welcome news to the area -- it's actually where Calgary was originally founded -- and HI-Calgary City Centre is thrilled to be a part of this change.
As with all neighbourhood redevelopment projects, there will be some inconveniences to the people who live, work and visit the area, most notably traffic changes and construction noise. Please be aware that you may experience some of this during your upcoming visit to our hostel. Our friendly and helpful staff will do all we can to minimize the impact to you and never hesitate to contact us for assistance.
For more information about how your stay at HI-Calgary City Centre may be impacted, please email calgary@hihostels.ca or call 1.403.269.8239.

Customer Reviews HI - Calgary City Centre

| I was a little uptight as I specifically had requested a bottom bunk in the dorm room, as I get up a few times a night and don't like to disturb others and plus it is very awkward to get out of the top bunks with the ladders without waking people up. But when I got there, there were no "bottom bunks" available. Other than that...everything was great as usual. (I've stayed there lots). Hostel response: | ||

| It's very noisy here. This hostel is in the middle of a large construction site. So most mornings there I'd the noise of trucks and earth movers. It looks like they will be building there for the next year at least.
With all the building going on I wonder if the hostel is getting a renovation because you can clearly hear people talking who are in the next room. This also adds to the noise factor. Hostel response:

| A good hostel overall. It lacks character but no major problem with this place. It does lack a comfortable lounge area for socialising, etc so it is difficult to meet other people. The kitchen and associated dining areas are well maintained. The staff do their job well. The dorm rooms are somewhat cramped but serviceable. The bathrooms are quite good. One thing though, the bunks have no reading lights, which quite simply astounds me. Hostel response: | ||

| Great location with very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to help guests, whether they were large groups or solo travelers .
I found all the staff great from the manager to the domestic staff.
There was some road works going on in the area which was a bit noisy in the daytime but not really a big deal and the end result of the districts regeneration will be a positive for the hostel.
I would definitely stay there again and gladly recommend it to anyone I met.
The location is very convenient to the city and local attractions. The hostel was very well run, clean and secure.
