In Biarritz, European capital of surfing, you will feel privileged at the Youth Hostel. Moderne, comfortable, welcoming, and user-friendly, it offers a large choice of sport and cultural activities. It couldn't have a better setting. Located near all means of transportation, it is a gateway to the Basque hinterland. Hiking is definitely on the menu - You'll be at the foot of the Pyrenean Mountains, and on Spain's doorstep. Many pilgrims have a stop at the YH before starting the coastal path, also called "El Camino Francés", leading to Santiago de Compostela. This YH is located in a Natura 2000 protected area, on a lake shore, and very close to Biarritz Océan / la Cité du surf, the biggest European Surfing and Marine museum.

Accommodation in 2 to 4 bedded rooms (4 to 16 bedded shared rooms in July and August). For more safety, you will find in your bedroom an individual lockable closet for your valuables, and in summer, in dorms, you can use lockers (locks on sale at the reception).

HI Q is the International Federation Quality Label, which enables our members to enjoy a constant quality level in all the Hostelling International network's Youth Hostels. The Biarritz hostel complies with the International Federation requirements and was the third hostel in the world being awarded the Quality Label, in May 2005.

The Green Key is a green label for tourist accommodation which was given to Biarritz Youth Hostel in October 2010 in acknowledgment of its eco-friendly management.

Facilities include bike rental, Internet access, laundry, a members' kitchen available all year long + cafeteria from June 15th to September 15th, 3 equiped meeting rooms (video projector, Wifi, sound equipment, microphones). Meals for groups all year on a half-board or full-board basis. This Youth Hostel has been recommended by the Guide du Routard, Let's go, Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor. We welcome only members aged 18 and older. This hostel is not appropriate for families from 15 June to 15 September.

Dining in the bar when you cook your own food is not really comfortable.

It was a great stay and very organized. Two friends and I got our own room and bathroom and it was a very safe environment, I would definitely recommend again.

Cool place right next to a lake. Its really close to the train station and a bus runs from the hostel to the center which is a 10 minute ride.

Day one was bed bugs. it got to the point where they said take just your hot washed pjs and toothbrush to the third room change...and i still got bitten. I am alergic to mites so they appear as huge welts on me instead of small moquito like bites or nothing. the staff were helpful with spray and a washing machine but they are not available during the day which is terrible for such a large hostel and worse when you are the only hostel in the area. i spent most of my time waiting around for the staff whilst trying to solve the bed bug problem. coffee should not be in a bowel. you say that it is what is done in the region. but after all my travels in the area and in france, it is only this hostel who needs to change their machine settings to cup instead of bowel. breakfast was poor in comparison to other and cheaper hostels i have stayed in in france.

It's a really nice hostel, eventhough the location is not that perfect if you wanna go surfing and not having a car.

Hostel response:
Hello Julia. Thank you for your comment. We are glad to know you have enjoyed your stay at the Biarritz Youth Hostel and we hope to see you again soon. P.S. : There are nice surf spots 20 minutes walking distance from the Hostel.(Ilbarritz, Milady...) Regarding the beaches in Biarritz center, there are buses every 20 minutes.
