The crystal-clear blue water of the Tyrrhenian Sea- one of the most famous of seas- and the green balsams of Mount Faito on the outermost edge of the Sorrentina Peninsula provide a stunning setting for Agerola's youth hostel. There are numerous possibilities for daytrips along the Amalfi Coast. Positano and Amalfi are famous for their beaches and also for their history and culture. Sorrento can also be reachable from Agerola and don't forget to visit the nearby Emerald Cave.

The Youth Hostel in Agerola (San Lazzaro), 650m above the Amalfi coast, was one of the first A.I.G. Hostels to open in Italy. Since 1949 it has occupied the original stables of the gatehouse to the long gone Castel Avitabile (1791-1850). The building itself is of historic interest as it is a Protected Building. Only the inside has been renovated, creating the Hostel and the Guest Rooms (2008), both of which have full bathroom facilities, living areas and lavish kitchens. The main Piazza and bus stop are directly in front of the building and behind and to the sides is the Campsite, with four large, grassy, shaded zones, fully equipped for tents or campervans.

Great facilities in the area with private rooms and a warm welcome. Breakfast was a big bonus, varied and delicious. Access from the Amalfi Coast takes longer than you think as the roads are small and twisty. Would totally stay here again.

the best service, friendliest staff, most helpful above the call of duty we have ever stayed in. The best facilities, wonderful common room, excellent breakfast. Perfect positioning for walking and helpful maps available. The advice given was useful, very knowledgable and interesting. Can't fault hostel or staff and possibly couldn't find better.

Paolo and Annamaria run a wonderful hostel. At first it seems out of the way, but with the crowds of people visiting Amalfi, Positano and Ravello, not to mention the prices on the coast, it is a great choice. 2000 feet above the sea, you can hike down or take a bus to the coast, and there's plenty to do in the hills. In addition to which you are staying in an historic dwelling updated with modern features. VS
