Thorsmörk Mountain Reserve offers isolated accommodation in mountain hut style, 50 km from the main road, surrounded by majestic mountains and glaciers. On one hand there are small cottages for 4-5 persons. In addition to two bunk beds, the cottages are equipped with basic cooking facilities, a table, chairs and table wear for 6 persons. A stove and a sink with running water also. On the other hand there are double/twin rooms in a seperate house. Shared wc facilities are in the building, but also in the service house a few steps away, along with showers and the guest kitchen.

Thorsmörk Mountain Reserve also offers accommodation in huts with dorms and a large campsite. These are not bookable online, but only through e-mail and telephone (see info above).

Thorsmörk, is without a doubt, one of Iceland‘s most beautiful and enigmatic natural wonders, visited each summer by hoards of nature thirsty travellers, Icelandic and foreign alike. It is surrounded on all sides by glaciers, mountains and mountain rivers, which can both act as a hindrance but also attribute to genial weather conditions.

ATTENTION* * * * *THE GLACIAL RIVERS ARE DANGEROUS AND NOT EASILY CROSSED. ONLY ALTERED 4X4 TRUCKS WITH EXPERIENCED DRIVERS OR LARGE BUSES SHOULD CROSS THOSE RAGING FORDS. Buses run twice a day, bookings not necessary, easily accessed - see below under "Directions".* * * * * * *

Thorsmörk offers a splendid variety of hikes and trails for everyone. Short, medium and long walks can be found. Through dwarf birch forests, along the turbulent glacial rivers, up hills and mountains or into deep canyons – the options are endless. A very popular and much travelled hike is called the "Laugavegurinn", a 50 km marked trek from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk.

A warden is present in Thorsmörk Mountain Hostel from May through September and can be contacted during opening hours, but in cases of emergency 24/7.

Thorsmörk is also open for groups all through winter. Book through e-mail or phone (see info above).

Bus:Buses 9 and 9a from Reykjavik Excursions take you from Reykjavik´s Bus Terminal (BSI) to Thorsmörk two times daily from June 15th to August 31st and once daily from September 1st to September 13th. You can also leave your car either at Hvolsvollur village (on route 1) or at Seljalandsfoss waterfall (at the intersection of route 1 and road 249) and hop on the bus to Thorsmork without worrying about drowning the rental car :)
Location:Thorsmörk is nestled in a valley between two of Iceland´s most beautiful glaciers, only 150 km from Reykjavik city. * * * * *Given the nature of the glacial rivers surrounding Þórsmörk, it is NOT advisable to drive there, unless you have an altered 4x4 truck and are an experienced driver. You can however leave your car either at Hvolsvollur town (on route 1) or at Seljalandsfoss waterfall (at the intersection of route 1 and road 249) and hop on the bus (see above) to Thorsmork.* * * * * *
