Welcome to Å Vandrerhjem and our small fishing hamlet with 150 inhabitants. Our hostel has its origin from 100 years old rorbu cabins. There are 10 cabins in total and they have been carefully restored with high standard “rorbu” style and charming atmosphere overlooking the sea.

Å Hostel is located in two buildings with a central location in the small fishing village of Å. The hostel is part of a larger fisherman cabins establishment.

Hennumgården is a typical house from Nordland from the 1860s. The atmosphere is friendly and international and many guests find new friends as they share meals and other activities at Hennumgården. The house is located in a museum area with old buildings and a small grocery store.

Hennumgården has 8 rooms, all with washbasins. Showers and toilets are located in the corridor. The large guest kitchen is to be found on the ground floor at the house , which has a dining table, a nice TV and terrace. The garden, "Hennum Garden" is also worth a visit, which is part of a project called "Ancient gardens in Lofoten".

The other building of Å Hostel is the top floor of Lofoten Stockfish museum. These rooms face the sea and they have a nice ocean view. All rooms have a sitting area and a dining table. The guest kitchen, showers and toilets are located in the corridor.

Steinar Larsen picked us up at the ferry, for which we were very grateful. He is a charming man and he alone is worth returning. We fell in love with our apartment in A and consider returning, starting our northbound journey from there.

Nice hostel. Staff organization could be better : I was not registered in their data base, but at least we had a room ! It's a pity that there is no common room to share experience with others people living there.

Probabilmente i lavori in corso nell'ostello hanno creato qualche piccolo problema.

I stayed here last year as well because I love the location and friendly owners. The views out from the rooms are stunning! I was sitting reading when I saw the northern lights outside and ran out to a dark spot for a better view.

Staying here was the best part of my trip! I should have stayed here more. Good kitchen, great sceneries around the hostel, cozy bedroom, and shower booth! You should go out at night. You can see a lot of stars and even intense northern lights. I saw stronger northern lights in Iceland, but it wasn't as touching as A since there were a bunch of people. The only thing is that you have to bring something to eat since you cannot buy things in A. It's not easy to go there without a car, but it's worth it. In Lofoten, even buses can be an attraction.

Hostel response:
Thank you for your kind words. In fact, there is a foodshop in a, not a supermarket, but you will find ordinary, simple food. The Fishing Village Museum has a combination of reception and shop where they sell simple food, souvenirs and tickets for the museum. I`m happy you saw the northern lights!

An explination: The Orignal Crew was off and the helper who arrived at last was obviously not the first choice. He would e.g. step into the room without knocking several times. No internet in the shelter during the whole stay. We had to hack somewhere in an open Wifi outside under a roof in the storm.

Hostel response:
I regret that you did not have wifi during your stay. You may have heard of the violent storms we had in November and December. They destroyed the internet access for a lot of private and businesses. There was enormous damage to be repaired, and it has taken a long time. In general we are very pleased with the staff. But one must of course knock on the door before entering. (You don`t say he didn`t knock, but didn`t do it many times.) In this case, he was frustrated. You had, without asking first, changed room because the light bulb in one of the lights did not work. In such a situation is the normal to ask for a new bulb, do not change room without asking first. The neighboring room was booked for other guests, the room for them was open, they should go directly in, and I was very surprised when I talked to them, and the room was not available. Hope that you otherwise had a nice stay.

It's a really nice hostel. The owner was really helpful and even drove to the port to pick us up. The Internet access was down when we were there.

I stayed in the fishing museum. It was a very nice big room so lots of space and a nice table in the middle. Kitchen was pretty good too. I was there in the low season so no staff around but apart from that it was good.
