I love this place and I keep coming back again and again. It is a little out of the city centre but really easy to get to via the No7 tram or Wollishofen station. I actually really like the location. The rooms are always clean and beds really comfortable. The breakfasts are brilliant and I find it quite easy to socialise with people in the large communal area (although some people do just sit glued to their laptops I find!). Only negative is the amount of plug sockets in the main area as there are only 2/3 on the wall - there are a few in the floor but they don't fit the international plug adaptors as they are deep, which is a little annoying as people often hog the wall sockets. Other than that perfect, I will be back :)

The Lounge area was just like a Train Station waiting area The only thing missing was the trains Not very comfortable. I am sure someone could turn this into a proper Lounge suitable for a Hostel and a further room made for the TV. Have a go

During my 2 days stay I witnessed twice how people freely smoke in the WC of the 5th floor. Although I pointed it out to the front desk (as well as to Andrea, the manager) it is clear that this youth hostel is helpless and does absolutely nothing to enforce its own rules. In the second case I pointed out to Andrea a girl who went to the men's (!) WC in order to smoke. Andrea did not ask her or approach her although at the time when I spoke to Andrea the girl was just sitting in the lobby, 2-3 meters from the front desk. The mess in the men's WC is also very noticeable. Lots of paper towels were on the floor throughout the night. Although as the saying goes "prophecy was given to the fools" the combination of papers and smoking is very hazardous and needless to mention invites a future danger.

It's a nice place, but there is no kitchen, not even a microwave oven. Zürich is a very expensive city, and travelers could save some money by cooking themselves.
