Cortona's youth hostel, housed in an ancient building that's one of the most splendid in this city of art, is the ideal place for those who enjoy history and the chance to relive the past.

Everyone is familiar with the great artistic and cultural legacy of the Renaissance, and Cortona encapsulates this legacy: from its superb buildings and the numerous works of art, to the spectacular winding alleyways and the panoramic views from its hilltops.

Cortona is a very good base for daytrips to nearby towns such as Pienza, Montepulciano and so many others that are all equally fascinating to art and nature lovers. You can also go horseback riding in a nearby stable or take a cooking or Italian language course right at the hostel.

Difficult to get to a bit, really up a hill. I guess that's expected as to where it is. No lockers in rooms. No kitchen facilities. Really nice building, otherwise really comfortable, good breakfast.

Good breakfast, only one with meat on the entire hostel tour. Great dining room. In the heart of the historical city, opposite the bells of a church clock tower that still sound: very atmospheric. Huge building, very few guests. I was allowed to leave my luggage longer when I visited the city until 10.30 am, cause check-out is already at 9.30 am, so arrive early the day before to do the city real justice and be able to visit its diocesan museum.

The hostel was fully booked so I ended up in a spare room in a hotel in town, top floor with a nice view. Only complaint was toilet & bathroom 3 floors down but not much of a problem really. Very peaceful place to stay and very nice staff at the hotel. I only tried the hostel breakfast on the last morning (even though it was included in the price) and it seemed a bit average so don't think I missed much on the other days.

I didn't stay at this hostel, because they gave my reserved spot to someone else. They did find me a place to stay and it was better than the hostel, so it worked out, but it was still not a great experience.
