Hostel La Rochelle is a great place to stay if you’re looking to relax and explore the attractive and unspoilt maritime city of La Rochelle. Conveniently located between the old port and the beach, the hostel overlooks the Marina Minimes and is ideal for exploring the city and the islands of Ré, Oléron and Aix.

Our accommodation includes 2, 3, 4 and 6 bedded rooms, and we offer a range of facilities including a large bar/common area with views of the marina, laundry, a relaxation area with TV and games, internet access and Wi-Fi. We provide breakfast, which is included in the price, and we offer a delicious affordable nightly dinner.

Hostel La Rochelle is close to the local bus route that links travellers with the main railway station and the city centre, and just a 10 minute walk to the beach. While you’re here why not hire one of La Rochelle’s ‘yellow bikes’ and cycle around the city – the first 2 hours are free!

Attractions to visit here include the aquarium, Fort Boyard, the Towers of La Rochelle, the Marais Poitevin wetlands, and the many museums of the city.

You can access the rooms from 3:00pm after check-in.

WARNING REFURBISHMENT WORKS

From October 1st 2012 until April 2013, our hostel will be getting a facelift. Large-scale works (reception and catering areas, common halls) will be made.

We will continue to welcome visitors but there will be reduced services : - no common relaxing space - no catering anymore (breakfast or dinner) - we cannot accept anything other than cash payments or by check

This hostel is undergoing renovation and should not be open as none of the services are available but yet you are charged full price. No where on the website were you informed of this inconvenience. Upon arrival it seemed the place was completely closed and in the process of a knockdown. It looked hideous and we drove passed it a few times before realising there was a tiny sign pointing to the entrance around the side of the building. Having stayed in other HI hostels in Finland and New York we expected a certain level of service, which were completely absent at this place. It is disgraceful that they expect people to pay full price for just a bed to sleep in. Will not recommend this place to any one. Hostel response: Hello, Christiaan, in fact the information about the current works has always been present on our site but late on Hostelling International’s one and we apologize for it. Similarly, we have reviewed and modified the signage outside access, which as you said did not seem appropriate. Also know that in spite of the inconveniences that these important works can cause, the choice has been made to continue to welcome the public with a restricted service but with rates which were lowered, know it. Finally, the current level of service is not what we usually offer, but unfortunately he can not be otherwise, so that we can offer a quite new face to our hostel! "Something bad for something good", as said! We regret that you did not appreciate your stay at our hostel, but let us hope that you liked discovering La Rochelle. We hope and invite you to mean visiting us from next summer in a «brand new hostel "!!

A pleasant stay. Unfortunately the hostel was under renovation when I went which was not stated before hand. So there was no food or kitchen available. It would have been nice to have know this before hand. Saying this the location was perfect and there are plenty of eateries around the hostel area. An interesting city which I would like to visit further in the summer season! Hostel response: Hello Nathan, indeed, the information concerning the current works has always been present on our website but in a late way on “Hostelling International” and we apologize for it. These are large-scale works that have been undertaken in all areas, but the choice has been made, however, to maintain a public reception with any inconvenience this may cause... I was extremely pleased with this hostel. Really clean, amazing breakfast. One of the best I've ever been to. And La Rochelle is stunning.

not one smile anywhere. staff had no local information. web site did not state there was NO cooking facilities for backpackers and lockout until 4:00.,not accaptble. the walk into la rochrlle was a thity minute brisk walk. some of which was through a boat yard. nite time walking that route was out of the question , for women anyway.
