The hours that the kitchen was available was very frustrating. As someone with allergies, I could not take part in the breakfast, but was also not allowed in the kitchen to cook for myself.

A great hostel in a beautiful and central part of Lyon. If you're looking for a place to stay that won't break your budget, then stay here.

Very clean, staff very helpful. Location at edge of old city, so many of the major sights are within easy walking distance. The entrance is on a steep street, so for courtesy to the driver if you take a taxi, be ready to on and off load quickly. Lyon is famous for its' small restaurants, called "Bouchons", and there are several within a 10 minute walk.

I had hoped the other reviewers might have been a bit harsh, but most (not all thé girl who checked me in was friendly) were pretty rude preferring to talk with each other. Breakfast finished at 9am even on the public holiday day, and the member of staff wouldn't give me anything even though I was just ten minutes late-fair enough, butte attitude was very unapologetic. I meet lovely people in my dorm, but sure to the presence of the staff, I think that the communal area is not very friendly. It was a shame it happened to rain all week, as the balcony was lovely. View of the city is great.

The funicular near the hostel was under maintenance during my visit in Lyon, so I have to travel by bus or by foot, which is a bit unconvenient. Also when I want to check-in at the counter, the staff said the counter is closed (but actually just 5 minutes or so from the re-opening time), so I have to stand and look at her and wait for her to get back to her work again, typical French!! Also the water is extremely hot, I just don'y understand why there is no cold water. However the location of the hostel is great if the funicular works!!

Friendly staff, clean areas. Located uphill so not that easy to reach. Room smelled real bad.

The whole place was generally a little run down, grubby and well over due refurbishment. Generally attitude of some staff a bit apathetic. I couldn't understand why there seemed to be no cold water taps on any of the sinks and the showers were either freezing cold or scorching hot. There was only one kitchen for the whole hostel which was tiny and not particularly clean. It was also shared between staff and guests. The breakfast was extremely basic and there seemed to be a lack of cups/mugs which meant if you wanted tea you were expected to drink it out of a bowl! The rooms themselves were basic but actually ok. The standard of this hostal was well below others I have stayed in which is a shame as its setting and location was perfect with stunning views across the city.

Not my favorite hostel, but not bad. Staff seemed mostly disinterested, understandable, but used to seeing staff members sort of enjoy their job. Didn't feel especially welcome, but they didn't do anything offensive in particular. Beds and rooms were clean; there are sinks in the rooms. Lamps on the top bunks are more finicky than those of the lower bunks: incandescent bulb and switched on and off constantly. The bathrooms smelled a lot like public bathrooms: usable but not esp. clean. The water from the faucet is the one you use, usu warm, but no temp change option. Quite unpleasant when it is cold though since you can't adjust the pressure. Breakfast is standard and it's nice to be able to eat outside overlooking Lyon. A standard hostel, more expensive than the usual hostel (to be expected since it is in a big city), though if it were less expensive by just a few dollars, it would have helped make it feel more worth the stay.

The bathrooms smell disgusting, there are no bins in the WC, no soap is provided except in the shower room, the plumbing is so loud (especially the sink in the shower room) that is sounds like a construction site. my matress was stained, the common area and mezzanine are uncomfortable and the kitchen is way to small for a hostel of that size. The staff prioritse breaks and socialising over customer service.
