If you have ever seen Pinocchio, then you will have an idea of what you will be getting in this part of Germany. Because it is said that this town was the inspiration for the location of Walt Disney’s iconic film which is as popular today as when it was made in 1940. It was also used as the back drop to the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and was used to film some scenes from Harry Potter Deathly Hallows in 2010.
Our hostel in Rothenburg ob der Tauber blends in perfectly with the surrounding buildings from the Middle Ages and is just a 15 minute stroll from all the cultural gems that this city has to offer. History is quite literally on the doorstep of the hostel as visitors can start a walking tour of the city walls from just outside the hostel. There is also a Nightwatchman Walking Tour which takes place during the summer for those wanting to see the city under the cover of darkness.
Those looking for facts and figures could visit the Crime Museum here which has various instruments of torture on display – not for the feint hearted. Or you could also try a visit to the Christmas Museum.
School groups are well catered for at our hostel with three packages which have been specially designed for teachers to make the most out of the area by showing students a Middle Ages programme of history.
Please be advised the hostel is extremely busy when the Taubertal festival comes to town in August as this is the preferred accommodation for festival goers locally.
