After decades of turmoil, Vietnam has emerged as a breathtakingly-beautiful, friendly and fascinating destination, bordering China to the north and Laos and Cambodia to the south. The lush deltas of the Mekong River in the south and the Red River in the north are a patchwork of rice paddies and orchards – exploring by boat is a must! The capital Hanoi is quieter and greener than the industrial centre of Ho Chi Minh City, with fascinating historical sites. Picturesque Ha Long Bay is a world heritage site dotted with more than 3000 islands, many featuring caves and grottoes. The diverse ecosystems of Cat Ba Island include tropical evergreen forests, shimmering white beaches, and clear waters that are perfect for getting up close to marine wildlife. In the south, Hoi An entices visitors with its wooden shop-houses and is ideally located to visit the great Cham Temple Ruins at My Son. And when you need a rest from the tropical climate, cool down in a hill station like Sapa.
