Hostelling in Ukraine
From the Carpathian Mountains in the west to the sub-tropical Crimean peninsula in the south, Ukraine has much to offer. Visit castles and medieval towns in Western Ukraine; canoe down rushing rivers; trek through stunning landscapes. Visit Lviv, one of the most beautiful European cities. The Carpathian Mountains are a heaven for winter sports enthusiasts, with very friendly people and prices so low that you will really be surprised. Kiev, the 1500 years old historic capital, is often called “mother of all Russian cities”. It is located in the centre of Ukraine and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the former Soviet Union. Travellers from Western Europe haven’t discovered Ukraine yet.Membership

For ease of travel and cheap tickets use trains; the railway network covers 90% of the country. Public buses and private mini-buses are also a popular way of travelling. Kyiv has excellent and very inexpensive air connections with most of the 25 Ukrainian regions. Self-drive is an option. Drive on the right.Travel Advice

As with all other former Soviet Union republics, Ukraine gained independence in 1991. During the next ten years the country lived through difficult economic problems, but from 2001 the economy is booming, with 13% annual growth. When travelling around, some basic Russian language skills (at least reading the Cyrillic characters) would really help.National Office
