Hostelling in Slovakia
Hike or bike in majestic forests and mountains; whitewater raft down rushing rivers; ski at some of Eastern Europe's best winter locations; see bears and marmots in the wild; visit castles and monasteries; drink Tokaj wine. Once part of former Czechoslovakia, Slovakia became an independent republic after the 'Velvet Revolution' of 1989 and has retained much of its rich culture and traditions. Bratislava, the cheerful capital, has an old town offering palaces and intriguing museums. To the north east are the Tatras mountains bordering Poland. To the north west are the scenic Malá Fatra mountains and the lovely national park of the same name, while the spa town of Trencianske Teplice boasts thermal baths and hot springs. In the south east the Slovak Karst is an awe–inspiring region of staggering limestone caves and canyons. Slovakia's hostel in Bratislava is a good gateway for exploring this spectacular country.Membership
