Hostelling in Montserrat
The only Montserrat hostel is the perfect starting point to discover this tiny Caribbean island. From your base at the Hot Rock hostel in Salem, it is easy to walk to the observatory and get up close to the active Soufrière Hills volcano. From the Salem youth hostel it is easy to discover Montserrat’s wonderful natural environment: hike through lush rain forests in the Central Hills; look out for tree frogs, iguanas and colourful birds; go turtle watching on a black sandy beach; dive the coral reefs to see tropical fish, spotted rays,and sponges. Before travelling to Montserrat, check out volcanic activity: the HI Hot Rock Hostel is located in the safe zone, while other places of interest can be found in the restricted daytime entry zone. The capital Plymouth and other areas of the island were devastated by the last eruption and are in an exclusion zone that is off-limits to everyone.Membership
