Hostelling in Scotland
Hike up mountains and across empty moorland; bike through untamed, remote landscape; visit turreted castles; eat smoked salmon; listen to the bagpipes; look for the Loch Ness monster. Scotland is a romantic mix of wild peaks, rugged islands, baronial mansions - and buzzing cities. Edinburgh presents graceful Georgian streets, stately buildings and twisting medieval alleyways. Full of vitality, Glasgow offers a wealth of art galleries and intriguing museums. The countryside beyond varies from the pine forests and inland lochs of the Cairngorm Mountains to the stunning sea scenery of the west coast and the quiet beauty of the islands of Shetland, Orkney and the Hebrides. With more than 60 hostels located in some of Scotland's most sublime areas, there is a wide choice of accommodation - ranging from rustic hideaways to modern lodges, and even an atmospheric castle, complete with a statue gallery (and, it is rumoured, its own ghost).Membership
