Hostelling in Faroe Islands

Walk along wave-lashed beaches; see seabirds in their millions on the Vestmanna cliffs of Streymoy; stroll around picturesque fishing villages; step back in time to the Viking Age. The 18 islands in the Faroes group are one of Europe’s hidden gems. Despite their location in the North Atlantic, the Faroe Islands enjoy a remarkably temperate climate that is often wet and cloudy, with long days from June-August; in the mild winter the islands are buffeted by gales and have virtually no sun. Nature lovers will enjoy the towering cliffs, rich wildlife, spectacular fjords and unspoiled environment. History lovers will be fascinated by the Føroya Fornminissavn (historical museum) which features artefacts from the Viking Age to the early 20th century, the 900-year-old traditional turf-roofed farmhouse Roykstovan, and the medieval Episcopal centre at Kirkjubøur. Join in the fun and spectacle of the Ólavsøka festival in July – events include the opening of the Løgting (Faroese Parliament) and the finals of the national rowing competition. The Faroe Islands are a self-governing region of Denmark and are not part of the European Union.
