Hostelling in Germany

Bike along extensive cycling routes; sail over shimmering lakes; hike through forests and over green mountains; go clubbing in one of Europe's funkiest cities; visit beer gardens resounding with music. Germany is justifiably proud of its host of castles, its ancient churches, its wealth of art and architecture (it has 25 UNESCO World Heritage sites) and its picture-postcard villages. Since reunification in 1990, Berlin has rapidly become one of Europe's hippest cities, in contrast to such glorious medieval towns as Lubeck, Ulm and Munster. And the country also offers an enormous range of outdoor pleasures, from the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest to the Bavarian Alps and the Harz Mountains. There is no need to look far to find accommodation here: there is a vast network of over 550 hostels - many of them offering sightseeing tours and sports packages from windsurfing to skiing.

Travel Advice

Hostelling International advises you always check with your own national authorities (Foreign Ministry, State Department etc.) what entry requirements apply to the country you want to travel to. These regulations may refer to visa, passport, vaccination and safety information.

Health

Medical insurance is recommended, for example the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for EU residents. The EHIC is valid in 31 European countries and guarantees that the holder will get the same treatment as people living in the country he/she is visiting. For more information: http://ehic.europa.eu
