Hostelling in Algeria

Oasis-hop across the Sahara; watch sunsets over sand dunes; hike over green mountains; visit spectacular Roman ruins. From the green coastal area of the north to the dramatic desert rolling across the south, Algeria is at the crossroads of Mediterranean, Arab and African cultures. One of north Africa's largest nations, it is a strikingly varied country whose highlights include the mountains of the Kabylia region, home to Berber people, many of whose villages seem to mock the forces of gravity; the extensive remains of the ancient garrison of Cuicul, or modern-day Djemila, founded in the 1st century AD and still with its striking mosaics and great baths; and the oasis town of Taghit, with its mud-brick houses and palm groves set close to the stunning dunes of the Grand Erg Occidental. Algeria's hostels are conveniently located to make the most of this diverse country.

Travelling Around

You can only reach the southern regions by plane. For ease of travel use Planes, Ferries, buses, self-drive. International driving licence and national car insurance are required.
