Hostelling Information
Hike through green and empty moorland; see standing stones and Neolithic sites; sail over fish-filled waters; visit country mansions and haunting castle ruins. Part of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland is moving closer to a peace settlement and despite its troubles it remains a rewarding province of blue-tinged mountains and quiet forest parks. Fermanagh in the south west offers lakes, stately homes and the subterranean splendours of underwater caves; in the south east, the craggy Ards Peninsula is a haven for birds and wildlife; to the north, the glens of Antrim feature waterfalls, rushing rivers - and a host of legends. Northern Ireland's hostels are well placed for exploring this small, uncrowded land, from the rolling Mountains of Morne in the south and the capital Belfast to the famous whiskey-producing area of Bushmills and the spectacular sea views of Whitepark Bay on the north coast.
