Hike along ancient Inca routes; visit the extraordinary landscape of eerie saltpans; see jaguar, rare spectacled bear and llama in the wild; mingle with bowler–hatted women traders in the highest capital city in the world; drink chicha (industrial–strength maize liquor). To the south, Potosi is the site of great silver mines and contains remains of much grandeur and wealth, while the buzzing city of Tupiza is located in an astonishing desert area.
